The Venice International Film Festival

Published on 18 February 2016 by Red House

The Venice International Film Festival, organized by La Biennale di Venezia, is held on the Lido of Venice.

The aim of the Festival is to raise awareness and promote the various aspects of international cinema in all its forms: as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue. The Festival also organizes retrospectives and tributes to major figures as a contribution towards a better understanding of the history of cinema.

Some facts about the Festival :

The first “Esposizioned’ArteCinematografica” came into being in 1932 as part of the 18th Venice Biennale (from 6 July to 21 August 1932) under the auspices of Count Giuseppe Volpi di Misurata.

The very first film to be shown in the history of the Festival was RoubenMamoulian’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

The 1932 Festival was held on the terrace of the Hotel Excelsior on the Venice Lido.

In 1936 an international jury was nominated for the first time and in 1937 the new Palazzo del Cinema was inaugurated.  Marlene Dietrich came to the Lido, consecrating the star worship that accompanied the Festival.

in 1947, immediately after World War II, the film festival was held in the Palazzo Ducale, the only time in history in the most beautiful living-room in the world.

Venice is the destination for actors, directors, writers, curious fans and movie fans.

Between the end of August and the beginning of September Venice is not only stolen photos, gossip actors parading on the red carpet, expected autographs under the Sun, Venice is movies, emotions, comments, reviews waiting for the Golden Lion.
